    Jump Jet (Apple II)

Jump Jet is a fairly early arcade style game for the Apple II computer. It was released in 1982 by a company called Avant-Garde Creations who developed a number of 8-bit computer games throughout the early 1980s. As a Jump Jet pilot for the Loyal Army, you are trying to win back an island captured by the Outsiders. You are stationed on an aircraft carrier off the coast of the island and must protect your fleet from enemy ships.

Jump Jet is essentially a horizontal side-scrolling shooter, however there is a little more complexity beyond just shooting stuff. For instance, you must land and refuel your plane from time to time. It reminds be a bit of a cross between Choplifter! and a side-scrolling version of Raid On Bungeling Bay, two somewhat more famous games. While the graphics and sound aren’t all that great, the game play has enough complexity to make it interesting, at least for its time.

Unfortunately, there aren’t many ways to play this game. You’ll have to either find an original copy for your Apple II, the only system it was released for, or find a disk image and give it a try via emulation. There probably aren’t very many original copies of this game out there, much less with working disks.
