GamePro wasn’t my video game magazine of choice but there’s no doubt is was one of the most popular. In terms of popularity, GamePro and EGM were probably at the top. The July 1998 issue includes:

      • Cover Feature: Strummin’ on the Ole Banjo – Banjo (the bear) and Kazooie (the bird) take animal magnetism to new extremes in an epic adventure that blasts its way past Mario 64.
      • Special Feature: You Have Spoken! – Whoa! You guys blew our minds this year with the GamePro Readers’ Choice Awards!
      • SWATPro Strategy Section
        • Fighter’s Edge
          • Tekken 3, Part 2 (PlayStation) – Here are the special attacks, linking moves, throws, and high-hitting combos for the remaining hidden characters: Gon, Anna, Dr. Boskonovitch, Gun Jack, Ogre, and True Ogre.
          • Mortal Kombat 4, Part 1 (PlayStation and Nintendo 64) – Kool Kombat kombos for five kombatants: Scorpion, Sonya, Sub-Zero, Quan Chi, and Jax.
        • S.W.A.T.PRO – Passwords, codes, tips and tricks for Need for Speed III, Tekken 3, San Francisco Rush Extreme Racing, and more!

    …and more!

  • Mario Kart 64 – Royal Raceway

Peach’s personal course probably has the perfect combination of course aspects. It has hairpin turns, it has easier turns for power sliding, it has straightaways for item usage, blind curves for hidden bananas, and the big jump for lightning bolts. It really has everything. It is a bit longer than most tracks, taking a skilled player over 2.5 minutes to complete unimpeded, but that also gives players a chance to stage a comeback if they get behind early.

If given the choice of stages, I often pick this one because of how it puts together so many aspects of racing, along with giving me the length and time to mount that comeback. It is a good test of every skill and makes for a great Grand Prix matchup for two players!

  • Mario Kart 64 – Koopa Troopa Beach

    Mario Kart 64 Track Countdown

    #6: Koopa Troopa Beach

The best Mushroom Cup track, Koopa Troopa Beach is one of the most hotly contested courses in all of Mario Kart 64. Because of the shortcut, which can be booby trapped by any and all racers, is the key part of this course. If a leading racer can successfully prevent the following racer/s from being able to catch up. Sometimes, it’s not the items that prevent people from hitting the shortcut, but actually just nerves!

It’s this course that can help seal a victory for a player in Grand Prix mode. Really good racers can make this course the most exciting race in the game.
