    The Spectacular Spider-Man #123

Next up in my 50 cent comic book haul from MegaCon 2019 is The Spectacular Spider-Man #123 from February 1987.

    The Spectacular Spider-Man #123

This issue involves the villain Blaze (spoiler alert – he appears to die in this issue). Apparently he has been paid by Foreigner to kill both Spider-Man and The Black Cat. This issue starts off with Spider-Man rescuing The Black Cat from an explosion in her apartment. This leads to an awkward situation when Mary Jane comes to visit Peter later and The Black Cat is in his apartment.

    The Spectacular Spider-Man #123

At any rate, Blaze and his henchman kidnap and torture a woman in an effort to get Spider-Man and Black Cat to make him a better offer. It didn’t really work out so well for him. Neither Spider-Man nor Black Cat have yet figured out that Kris Keating, who pointed them to Blaze in the first place, is really Foreigner and the one who hired Blaze to kill them.

I’m not sure why the cover says “Blaze is Back”. As far as I could determine, this was his first and last appearance.

  • 50 Cent Comics – New Mutants #25 (2011)

Next on in my long line of 50 cent comics is New Mutants #25. This issue is from 2011, not from the original run.

There’s quite a bit going on in this issue. It opens with the team (or part of it anyway) containing a Nimrod infestation at an auto factory.

Meanwhile, Illyana is being put on trial of a sort for her recent deception of the X-Men in using them to help her clean out Limbo. Something about putting all of reality at risk…that sort of thing. In the end, they decide to lock her up.

By the end, Dani (a.k.a. Moonstar) is put in charge of the team by Cyclops and sent to hunt down Nate Gray. But, as you can see, he’s busy being held captive and tortured.

  • 50 Cent Comics – The Magdalena #5

Continuing on with my 50 cent comic book score from MegaCon a couple of months back, we have The Magdalena #5 from February, 2011.

The concept of this book is that there are a long line of descendants from Jesus and Mary Magdalene who protect the Church from evil from generation to generation. The concept is interesting (if a little reminiscent of The Da Vinci Code).and the art is pretty good but there doesn’t seem to be much depth here. The story basically involves a young boy who is being cultivated as the Anti-Christ though it’s a little unclear whether he really is or not.

In this issue, The Magdalena battles another ugly demon from Hell. There weren’t many ads in this issue and being a relatively recent book, they aren’t as fun to look back at anyway.
