The early days of the Commodore 64 saw a lot of relatively obscure games released. Here is a 1983 ad by company I never heard of for two games I never heard of. The first is Speed Racer and the second is Candy Bandit, both by the same author. The ad claims that they were available at “finer software stores everywhere”.

Speed Racer is a top down racer with various obstacles, such as pedestrians. It definitely has a unique scoring system. You gain racer points based on distance, “heavenly points” based on how many people you avoid and “devilish points” based on how many people you run over. It’s up to you to chose which points you want to maximize.

Candy Bandit seems to be even more obscure. The object is to grab all the candy while avoiding the sheriff as you maneuver around the screen.

Neither of these games nor the company that published them (T & F Software) seemed to have been around for very long. However, they are pretty good examples of the kinds of games commonly available on the Commodore 64 in its earliest days.
