One Response to Captain Commando (Capcom)

  1. Captain Commando was a futuristic side-scrolling beat-em-up arcade game released by Capcom in 1991. In terms of gameplay style, it was similar to Capcom’s earlier Final Fight arcade game. Somewhat uniquely it allowed up to four player simultaneous play depending on the specific arcade cabinet purchased.

Eventually, Captain Commando was releaed for a number of home systems though it was quite a long stretch between releases. The first home version was the Super Nintendo version released four years later in 1995. As was common in arcade ports to home systems at the time, detail was reduced and things like the number of enemies on the screen at the same time was also reduced. In addition, the SNES version only supported two players. And as Nintendo had a habit of doing, some censorship also occurred. Despite all this, it was still a decent port if you like these sorts of games.

A PlayStation version was released in Japan three years later in 1998 but there were no other North American releases until it appeared on one of the Capcom Classics collections in emulated form in 2006 for Xbox, PS2 and the PlayStation Portable. Apparently it was planned for the Sega CD at some point but never released.
