Superman was one of the earliest games released for the Atari 2600 (or Atari VCS (Video Computer System) as it was known then). It is an action adventure game designed by John Dunn and published in 1978 or 1979 to coincide with the Christopher Reeves Superman movie released in 1978.
Apparently it was created based on prototype code for Adventure but was actually published before Adventure. It was one of the first licensed video games. It was also one of the first single player games released for the Atari 2600 though you could play with two players in a bizarre way. If you had two joysticks connected, one player had priority over left and right movement while the other had priority over up and down movement. Another unique feature was that it incorporated a pause function by using the select switch on the console.
The game got good reviews when it came out and after. It had good graphics for the time and was also praised for its gameplay. This is definitely a good example of an early Atari 2600 game.
