The X-Files – 6×11 – “Two Fathers”

This is a mythology episode and arguably one of the most important in the entire series. While very many of the mythology episodes are vague, confusing, and often downright unintelligible without a solid knowledge of the entire series, this one provides a lot of answers…and for the most part they make sense.

In this episode we learn that a 25 year project to create a human-alien hybrid has finally been successfully completed. This was the event that was to trigger alien colonization and the elimination of most life on Earth. The hybrids were necessary to provide a slave race for the aliens and to allow those few to survive who helped them. Things aren’t so simple though because there is also a rebel alien force trying to stop the progress of the colonizers and dissension within the ranks of the syndicate (those helping the aliens) as to what to do next. Some want to make them aware of the hybrid so colonization can begin and they can be reunited with their families who have been held hostage. Others want to hide the success in order to buy more time to come up with a plan to resist.

Overall this was an excellent episode in the mythology story arc and was to be continued in the following episode. The relatively clear plot was a nice change of pace for the mythology episodes and there were some good payoffs in terms of things that were revealed. I would give this episode 4.5/5 stars.
