A summary for those that haven’t been keeping up with this series:

I found a number of 5.25″ disks at a thrift store a number of years ago. I finally got around to acquiring a 5.25″ disk drive and extracting the contents a while back. Since then I have been posting the contents here.

Based on the contents, at least some of these disks were apparently once owned by someone named Connie who used to run the “Close Encounters” Special Interest Group (SIG) on Delphi in the mid 1980s.

A specific definition of this SIG was found in a document on one of the disks: “This SIG, known as ‘Close Encounters’, is a forum for the discussion of relationships that develop via computer services like the Source, CompuServe, and Delphi. Our primary emphasis is on the sexual aspects of those relationships.”

This service was text based and was accessed via whatever terminal program you used on your computer to dial in to Delphi’s servers. Many of these disks have forum messages, e-mails and chat session logs. All of this is pre-internet stuff and I don’t know if there are any archives in existence today of what was on Delphi in the 1980s. In any case, much of this stuff would have been private at the time and probably wouldn’t be in such archives even if they existed.

This post includes the contents of CONFIDEN.DOC. The file is dated October 26th, 1985 and contains a personal post about sexual positions. Or perhaps it was a post that was never made.

    See the previous post here.

This is a tough one for me to share, but I'm going to give it my best.

The conferences we've had here on sexual positions have lead to a lot
of discussion between my lover and I, as well as some experimenting.

He has tactfully pointed out to me that I don't like certain positions
because I don't want to be put into the position of having to be the
one responsible for the success of such.

Although I've presented him with a number of reasons why certain
positions don't work for me or appeal to me, he's sure it is because
of my lack of confidence. He's also very sure that we will work
    together to overcome this.

What I'd like to hear from others here is why you *don't* like certain
positions or why they don't work for you?

(Honestly, I'm not looking for *new* reasons to add to my list, but it
would be comforting to know that others might have similar
    likes/dislikes or problems.)

Anyone willing to give this a try?

     2 19-OCT BRIEF CO TOPIC

The topic for tonights conference will be:

             Why get married.

Thanks to Liz (KAPLAN), Jane (LOOP) and Marti (ILLUSION)
     for this suggestion.

     4 12-OCT BRIEF CONFERENCE TONIGHT

The topic for tonights discussion will be 'Sex Magazines <penthouse etal>': Who buys/reads them and why.

Conference will start as usual at 9:30 pm eastern time.

     12 5-OCT BRIEF CONFERENCE MATERIAL

Last week in the Close Encounters Conference, we started talking
     about 'sexual positions'.

Unfortunately, we all seemed to be at a loss for talking, really,
     about the subject.

What are our favorite positions?; Why do we like that (those)?; and
     etc.

This week, I would like to return to the topic and <a little late>
will be seeding the discussion by leaving messages in the forum
     section.

While I am not an authority in this matter (field) I do have a few
ideas and maybe some opinions. <so what else is new?>

This post includes the contents of TEENS.DOC from October 25, 1985. It contains a poll about whether or not teens should be allowed in this particular group along with some comments from those voting in the poll. This appears to be a screen capture log of viewing and voting on the poll.

I think it is only fair, and anyway, don't you think they already know all of
this in the sig from BEING a teenager?
The basic theme of this sig precludes allowing those teens who are under 18.
Also, this is consistant with most 'adult' things in life generally.
It's hard to know how to vote when the question asks: Do you think so or not?

I think the teens definitely need a place of their own, however, I'm not sure
this is the place. And NO, I don't think they already know everything just
by BEING a teenager. I'm still learning myself!
If they have the ability to get this far, It's time to stop telling them what
NOT to do and focus on what they CAN do with common sense. It didn't do any

The membership has voted not to allow teenagers into the sig and to keep this as

a place for adults only. This will avoid a lot of hassles when we get into
discussions of a more personal or "questionable" nature.
