Advertisement for Snowboard Kids for the Nintendo 64 from the March 1998 issue of EGM 2.
Snowboard Kids is, as the title suggests, a snowboarding themed game. This game was released by Atlus for the Nintendo 64 in 1998. A PlayStation version was also released but it was available only in Japan.
Snowboard Kids has more in common with a kart-style racing game than with any kind of sports simulation. In fact, if you were looking for a game similar to Mario Kart 64 then Snowboard Kids might just be the next best thing. Locations are not limited to snowy mountains (though those are of course included) and there are various weapons (or “Shots”) and other abilities to use throughout the game.
Snowboard Kids got quite good reviews in general and spawned a sequel (originally titled “Snowboard Kids 2”) the following year. A Nintendo DS sequel titled “SBK: Snowboard Kids” was also released but not until much later in 2006 .
