The Amazing Maleeni is a monster of the week episode though it deals more with magicians than monsters. This episode starts off with a magician entertaining a crowd outside an amusement park. His finale involves spinning his head all the way around. Later, he is found dead in the driver seat of his van with his head having apparently been severed.
Despite the somewhat bizarre start, the conclusion is somewhat mundane. Overall it was a fun and enjoyable episode and was somewhat reminiscent of the second season “Humbug” (though not nearly as good) in terms of feel. The main supporting character is a real magician and he did a fine job playing the part. The plot was a little convoluted at times and there wasn’t really much of an x-file here (just misdirection) but still it was still enjoyable.
I would give this episode 3.5/5 stars. The somewhat confusing plot and the fact that there wasn’t much of an X-File bring it down a little but the magicians were fun to watch.
