The was a pretty average “monster of the week” episode. The story centers around a mysterious cave that gives visitors the power of super speed. It so happens that a couple of local high school students (boyfriend and girlfriend) are the ones discover it. They are a couple of troublemakers with the guy being the really bad one. For some reason they decide to bring a third person, who is generally a good person and new in the area, in on their secret. The girl sympathizes with him while the boyfriend seems to just want a minion of sorts.
Mulder and Scully were their typical selves but the guest actors and the story were both average at best. The story could have been a little more interesting if maybe there was a little more background or investigation into what made that cave special but there really wasn’t much of that kind of thing in this episode. There was just the mystery of how certain crimes were committed (including the murder of a police officer). The episode focused too much on the mystery of the crimes committed vs. the mystery of what gave those students their powers.
I would give this episode 2.5/5 stars. About as average as it gets.
