Magic: The Gathering – Battlegrounds

Released November 2003 – blast from the past.

Battlegrounds is a real time strategy video game based on Magic: The Gathering collectible card game, though with many fundamental differences. The game is based on the creation of heroes and mages that summon forth powerful monsters, spells, and abilities to defeat the enemy duelist. Duelists learn new magical spells by completing the campaign, with more and more spell books becoming available as the player progresses. Each spell is separated into one of 5 colors, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.

One Response to Magic: The Gathering – Battlegrounds

  1. Magic: The Gathering has been around for a long time. Since 1993 in fact and boy do I wish I had bought like a million cards back then. Ten years later, they decided to come out with a computerized version of the game called Magic: The Gathering – Battlegrounds. The video game is quite a bit different than the card game (it’s real-time for one thing) but still shares many similarities as well. Personally, I think it is kind of difficult to recreate the card playing experience in a video game but for those who need a fix with no one around to play at the moment, you have your chance on the Xbox or PC (PC version pictured above).
