Narrative

Adam de Cokefeld, son of Leofmaer (Lemmer), an Englishman to whom an abbot of Bury gave land held in 1086 by Berard and which became known as the Cockfield fee. Probably grantdson of Wulfric, a tenant of the abbey at Groton. The fee increased in size and importance under Adam, who was high in favour with Abbot Anselm (1121-48). His wife was Adelisa, sister of Willam de Criketot. Father of Robert, William, Adam and Alan. Father also of Alice, wife of William de Valeines, and of Sabina, wife of Robert fitz Humphrey. Denise (wife of Roger de Montcanisy?), Odo and Simon de Cokefeld, who attested his widow's grant for his soul (and their son Alan's) after his death, were probably also their issue. His wife Adelisa made their son Adam her heir in Feltwell, Suffolk, held of the honour of Warenne. His son Robert had succeeded him by 1166. [Domesday Descendants p405]
