The poll has a margin of error of 3 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson has garnered strong support from the military in previous surveys \u2014 taking 39 percent among active-duty respondents in a Doctrine Man poll conducted in July, and 13 percent in a Military Times poll earlier that month.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>GOP nominee Donald Trump came in second at 30% while Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton received only 24%.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson has said he wants to balance the budget and \u201ccut military spending by 43 percent down to 2003 levels and reduce the U.S. nuclear arsenal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite an outcry from veterans, Johnson could not participate in the Commander-in-Chief forum hosted by MSBNC and the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA). Veterans lashed out at the IAVA for not including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/vets-outraged-over-iava-comments-refusal-to-include-gary-johnson-in-forum\/article\/2601175\">Johnson<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIf you don\u2019t let Johnson debate, you can\u2019t claim to be a group that speaks for veterans in any way,\u201d wrote one person.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s shameful for a veterans group to not invite the candidate most popular with veterans,\u201d wrote another.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Angry veterans then contacted sponsors of IAVA. The organization lost Duke Cannon Supply Co.\u2019s sponsorship, one of its biggest sponsors, which is also well respected by veterans.<\/p>\n<p>In response, the\u00a0IAVA indicated\u00a0they would\u00a0hold a separate event for Johnson.<\/p>\n<p>In 2012, GOP nominee Ron Paul, who identifies as libertarian, received the most donations\u00a0from active-duty military than any other nominee. US News <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usnews.com\/news\/blogs\/washington-whispers\/2012\/02\/06\/ron-paul-awash-in-active-duty-military-donations\">reported<\/a> Paul received\u00a0$150,000 from active-duty military in the fourth quarter of fundraising.
