GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump believes that the war on terror will require unprecedented surveillance of America\u2019s Muslims.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re going to have to do thing that we never did before,\u201d he said during a Yahoo interview.
\n\u201cSome people are going to be upset about it, but I think that now everybody is feeling that security is going to rule,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n
\u201cCertain things will be done that we never thought would happen in this country in terms of information and learning about the enemy,\u201d he added. \u201cWe\u2019re going to have to do things that were frankly unthinkable a year ago.\u201d<\/p>\n
Trump would not rule out warrantless searches in his plans for increased surveillance of the nation\u2019s Muslims, Yahoo reported Thursday.<\/p>\n
He also remained open toward registering U.S. Muslims in a database or giving them special identification identifying their faith, the news outlet added.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re going to have to look at a lot of things very closely,\u201d Trump continued. \u201cWe\u2019re going to have to look at the mosques. We\u2019re going to have to look very, very carefully.\u201d<\/p>\n
Trump additionally floated former New York Police Department Commissioner Raymond Kelly for a position in his potential presidential administration.<\/p>\n
\u201cRay\u2019s a great guy,\u201d he said of the former NYPD chief. \u201cRay did a fab job as commissioner, and sure, Ray would be somebody I\u2019d certainly consider.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kelly notably spearheaded the NYPD\u2019s controversial surveillance program of New York City\u2019s Muslim population following the 9\/11 terrorist attacks.<\/p>\n
The Associated Press reported in November 2011 that the NYPD built extensive databases detailing life in Islamic communities.<\/p>\n
The department monitored grocery sales, social life and even worship among New York\u2019s Muslims, the AP added.<\/p>\n
Trump has repeatedly called for increased surveillance of Islamic mosques following last week\u2019s terrorist attacks in Paris.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re going to have to watch and study the mosques, because a lot of talk is going on in the mosques,\u201d he said on MSNBC\u2019s \u201cMorning Joe\u201d early Monday.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd from what I heard, in the old days \u2014 meaning a while ago \u2014 we had a great surveillance going on in and around the mosques of New York City,\u201d the outspoken billionaire added.<\/p>\n
Trump then said that the U.S. would have \u201cabsolutely no choice\u201d besides shutting down mosques when \u201csome bad things happen.\u201d<\/p>\n
