Orison falls into the “Monster of the Week” category and is also a sequel of sorts. It features the return of Donny Pfaster, a death fetishist who kidnapped Scully five years earlier.
In this episode, Pfaster escapes from prison with the help of a prison priest (Orison) who has a very powerful gift of persuasion (or hypnotism). Using this power, he causes one man to get his fingers chopped off and everyone else to be distracted while Pfaster escaped.
As an epsidoe this was maybe slightly above average. “Sequels” were, over all, few and far between in the X-Files so it was kind of nice to see them when they came along, especially in this case when it had been five years. Pfaster is suitably creepy as he was the first time and the addition of the crazy priest was a nice addition. The story itself wasn’t terribly interesting or mysterious as it mostly revolved around Pfaster attempting to kill Scully again. Overall, I would give it 3/5 stars.
