This is a Monster of the Week episode that focuses around a prison inmate who has the ability to walk through walls and pass through other solid matter. The inmate escapes the prison during a tornado and then sets out on a search for vengeance and his son whom he has not yet met.
Overall, this wasn’t a bad episode but it didn’t feel all that much like an X-Files episode. While the effects of his power are extemporized on occasionally the episode is mostly about an escaped prisoner after revenge and a chance to get to know his son. Even the source or cause of his power is somewhat left up in the air. You are left believing the tornado or lightning had something to do with it but all this takes a back seat to the escaped prisoner plot. The “X-File” in this case just has little to do with the story as a whole. The inmate’s superpower could have been any number of things, or he could have had a super weapon instead, or he could have just been a powerful zombie with feelings and it would have made little difference to the episode.
I would give this episode 2.5/5 stars. Reasonably well done but just not terribly X-Files like as a whole.
