  • ‘The X-Files’ season 11 reportedly near renewal

We don’t think it’s any surprise that Fox wants more of “The X-Files,” given that the revival series early this year generated fantastic ratings and brought nostalgia-craving fans a whole lot of joy. The problem since then has only been one of logistics, given the cast’s busy schedules and also finding the room in the network lineup in order for it to happen.

Luckily, it now appears that we’re inching ever closer to said renewal. Per TVWise, Fox is close to renewing the series for a season 11, and there could be a formal announcement within the upcoming weeks. Creator Chris Carter, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are all apparently set to return, and with an episode order of around ten episodes. This makes some sense, given that Duchovny had said previously that he wanted another season to run longer than the six-episode revival did.

As for when this show could come on the air, this report claims it could be as early as next fall. Maybe that will happen, but we honestly wouldn’t mind waiting until January of 2018 to see Mulder and Scully back in action. We always have a tough time with Fox’s fall schedule, given that the World Series and Thanksgiving tend to make it a little bit wonky with various hiatuses. We prefer getting the episodes all consecutively, but we presume that beggars really cannot be choosers here. We’ll just be grateful that we are getting more of the show at all.

  • X-Files creator Chris Carter expects series to return to Vancouver

Production of The X-Files, one of the most notable TV series ever shot in British Columbia, will resume in Vancouver next spring, according to series creator Chris Carter.

The series’ return comes after a revival run of six new episodes produced in B.C. last year, which aired in early 2016.

While there has been speculation that The X-Files would continue following its recent rebirth, Carter offered a timetable in an interview with The Globe and Mail this week.

“I imagine we would be up there shooting in the spring of 2017,” said Carter, who will, this week, be in Vancouver to receive an Industry Builder Award from the Vancouver International Film Festival for his efforts to ensure that production on the recent round of episodes was environmentally sustainable.

He said he expects to do “a small expansion” on the number of episodes in this latest continuation of the milestone show.

His comments came after he confirmed that talks are well-advanced with key players in the series, which pitted FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) against paranormal creatures and conspiracies.

“They are constructive negotiations so I can’t imagine [The X-Files] wouldn’t come back,” Carter said.

A spokesperson for Carter later noted that talks are under way with Duchovny and Anderson to reprise their roles in the new episodes.

Carter said that continuing the series presents some creative challenges.

“Coming back last year was a trick and coming back again will be another trick,” he said.

“How many years of life are there left in the show? Do you play this as the end? Do you play this as a continuation? There are lots of creative challenges to tackle.”

  • The X-Files Season 11 Update: Fox Bosses Promise Significant Talks Are Happening

The X-Files remain open at Fox, but the question remains when we might get to spend some time with Agents Mulder and Scully again to clear up that apocalyptic cliffhanger.

While they didn’t have a concrete timeline to offer reporters on hand during their executive session during the Television Critics Association summer press tour, Fox Television Group Chairman and CEO Dana Walden and Fox Broadcasting Company Entertainment President David Madden reassured that talks with stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny, as well as creator Chris Carter, remain ongoing.

“We would obviously love to do another season. There are significant talks going on,” Madden admitted. “Schedules are hard. We’re working hard to get this done and we’d love to get another season out now.”

What might a new batch of episodes of The X-Files look like? That remains to be seen, but Walden shared following the panel that she hopes to expand on the revival season’s six-episode order. “We would’ve liked to have done more in the first place. It was really the limitations of David and Gillian and Chris’ schedules,” she continued. “It was just trying to coordinate a time where they all could carve out a time when they could all be in Vancouver. And I think now we have longer to plan, we’re in conversations that potentially we can do more. I don’t imagine it being a full season of The X-Files, but I would be really happy if we could get eight to ten episodes.”
