The One (May 1992)

Source: The One – Issue Number 44 – May 1992

The One is a gaming magazine that was published in the U.K. in the early 1990s. It covered multiple 16-bit platforms throughout its life, mostly the Amiga and Atari ST. However, in May 1992 it was just the Amiga. Contents includes:

  • The Disks – This magazine included cover disks and the highlights from this month include playable demos of fire and Ice and the Humans plus complete games Yelp!, Microbes and Asteroids and lots more.
  • News – Konami gets game license for Batman Returns; new Amiga 600 launches soon; game based on the movie Lawnmower Man coming soon; Alien 3 on the way; a look back at the May 1990 issue; and more.
  • The Magnificent Seven – An interview with seven of Britain’s top game developers.
  • Work in Progress – A detailed look at games currently under development including The Humans, Shadowworlds, and Aquabatics.

  • The Ultimate Games Amiga – An article on the ideal Amiga gaming setup. Must haves are an Amiga 500 with a 1MB upgrade, a second disk drive, decent joysticks (The Cruiser from Powerplay is recommended here). If you still have money leftover, then a 40 MB hard drive is nice, along with a trackball, an improved mouse, an upgraded monitor, an Amiga Action Replay, and a sound system to pipe that Amiga stereo sound through.
  • Review – Reviews this month include Indiana Jones 4, Space Quest IV, Ultima VI, Plan 9, Project X, Psyborg, Super Ski 2, Eye of the Beholder 2, Pacific Islands, Deliverance, Apidya, Global Effect, John Banres Euro Football, and Fire and Ice.
  • Kill Zone – Hints, cheats and maps for Heimdall, Robocop 3, Willy Beamish, and Shadowlands, plus shorter tips for The Simpsons, Navy Seals, Wolfchild, Alien Breed, Terminator 2, Last Ninja 3, Rubicon, Populous II, Fantasy World Dizzy, Pegasus, Pit-Fighter, SWIV and more.
  • Budget & Bundles – A look at recent budget releases. These are usually low budget games or older games that are being re-released. Included this month are Lotus Espirit Turbo Challenge, Manchester United, Hoversprint, The Bitmap Brothers Volume One (includes Xenon, Cadaver, and Speedball II), and Fantasypak (includes Colorado, Crystals of Arborea and Boston Bomb Club).

    • WWF Comp – Win a Wrestlefest Con-Op.
  • Public Domain – A look at the latest in public domain games including Lemmingoids, Obliteration, Smash Telly, Smash TV: The Rip-Off, and Atic Atac.
  • Amiga’s Most Wanted – An overview of some of the most infamous villains to be found on the Amiga.
  • Previews – A look at upcoming games including Graham Taylor’s Soccer Challenge, Football Kid, Vikings: Fields of Conflict, S.A.S., Euro Football Champ, and Zool.

…and more!
