Source: Sega Visions – February March 1994
Before I ran across this ad recently, I didn’t remember ever hearing of Mansion of Hidden Souls. As a point and click adventure, it isn’t really one of my favorite type of games. This game is somewhat similar to games like Myst and 7th Guest among others. It’s mostly an exploration game with a few puzzles and a lot of full motion video.

Mansion of Hidden Souls actually got mostly positive reviews. I’m not sure that this ridiculous ad from the February/March 1994 issue of Sega Visions did anything to sell more games though. The plot involves a girl who chases a butterfly into a mansion and gets trapped. You, as her brother, must rescue her. Along the way you will talk to a number of ghosts in the form of butterflies.

This game was released late in 1993 and apparently it was successful enough to spawn a remake on the Sega Saturn which was released in 1995. Unfortunately, the Saturn version was not as highly regarded, or at least reviews were more mixed, despite the superior hardware of the Saturn. There haven’t been any other remakes or sequels so the best version to play if this is your type of game is the original Sega CD version.
