  2. Super Huey is a helicopter combat flight simulator that was originally released on various home computers in 1988 including the Commodore 64, Apple II, Atari 8-bit, Amiga, Atari ST and PC (DOS). The Atari 7800 was a very underated console that was a contemporary of the NES and was destroyed by Atari’s marketing and and the resulting poor 3rd party support.

The Atari 7800 version of Super Huey is sort of a mixed bag. The 7800 has the power to execute the game fine but where this game excels is as a realistic simulator (about as realistic as you could get at the time anyway). Because the Atari 7800 lacks the keyboard of a computer, control becomes unnecessarily complicated. The game isn’t bad on the Atari 7800 but the controls leave something to be desired. If you don’t like flight simulators where attention to detail is important then this game is not for you. It has an arcade mode but it really isn’t very interesting as an arcade type game. If you have the option of getting this game on one of the computer systems it was released on then you are probably better off. But if you have an Atari 7800 and are looking for a flight simulator you probably won’t find anything better.

Above is a “review” (really more of a detailed description) of Super Huey for the Atari 7800 from the September/October 1989 issue of Atarian.
