The extra inventory, labor, and documentation involved in handling them, and
sticking the write protect notch over the disk. If using disks w/o notches,
they are more expensive since they are manufactured in lower volume. Not to
mention special equipment is required to duplicate them.

To sell product. There is a tradeoff between costs for reliability/quality
and your target market.
