Message-ID: <655@vsi.UUCP> Date: 11 May 88 19:27:00 GMT Distribution: comp Organization: V-Systems, Inc. -- Santa Ana, CA Lines: 24 Hi net.folks, We have a customer with an AT&T 3B5 (soon to be a 3B15) running Informix-SQL (and ESQL/C). Things get pretty slow some times and we are considering an upgrade to Informix-TURBO. Their literature indicates that it maintains the database in a separate disk partition, avoiding filesystem overhead (no indirect blocks!). In addition, they use shared memory for data buffers to cut down on reread-before-updates. What kind of performance boost should we see? We particularly dislike sqlexec's long startup time. Our databases are moderately sized (tables up to 1.5MB, will grow to perhaps 10MB). These programs are run constantly and any kind of benefit would help. Is this worth $10,000?
