This talk out- lines the traditional directions of the field, assuming little or no background in the area. At UW, many new results in these traditional directions have been obtained, and a number of in- teresting new directions taken. The main focus of the talk is an overview of the current research at UW in combinatorial reliabil- ity theory. In particular, I will discuss recent research due to Hosam AboElFotoh, Rob Day, Brad Debroni, Ehab Elmallah, Wendy Myrvold, Lou Nel and the speaker.
