I am not sure that MOUNT VD0: must be the first thing executed in a startup-sequence.  At first I thought you meant it must be first to recover anything in memory, but then I checked my startup-sequence and discovered that I perform many functions prior and have had no problems whatsoever.  (except the occasional bad memory board due to "READ/WRITE ERRORS" (see other messages currently on board - yes it IS possible to have bad memory with this error and HAS occured!)

I suggest you try this with a normal startup-sequence first.  If you still have problems please let me know.  I would be more than happy to help solve this dilemma.
