LINDO stands for LInear aNd Discrete Optimizer. It is an interactive
package, apparently written in FORTRAN, that solves linear, integer, and
quadratic programming problems. As far as I know, versions are available for
almost anything from the PC clones to the DEC VAX to the IBM mainframe.
Copying from the LINDO user's manual (by Linus Schrage, The Scientific Press,
1981), LINDO "can optimize linear, integer, and quadratic equations with up
to 4000 rows and 15000 variables." From my experiences, it is very easy to use
(if you have a copy of the manual, it is even easier ;-) and has built-in help.

According to the User's guide, for more information, contact:

			Redwood City, CA 94063
			Tel: (415) 366-2577

If you're interested, we have had LINDO running on a VAX 8300 for almost a
year, and found that it works very well. (I don't believe that LINDO is
``public domain'' however, as Rick suggests.)
