Earlier, someone asked on this net how to tell whether a bird is
'rare' or not.  No birds are ubiquitous, and so all must be rare
somewhere.  And only a few are rare everywhere.  For Alaska, British
Columbia, Washington, Oregon, and California, I recommend:

RARE BIRDS OF THE WEST COAST, by Don Roberson.  Published 1980,
Woodcock Publications, Pacific Grove, California.
ISBN 0-9605352-0-9.

Hope you can find a copy.  It is excellent, with maps and 'date-charts'
for species occurring an average of 4 times per year or fewer in any
western state/province.
