Recent versions of news support a "checkgroups" control message that
can be used to help keep your active file in sync with the "standard"
Usenet groups. What follows is a skeleton checkgroups control message
that you can customize and run locally to check your active file.

To run this message you must:

1) Edit this message. Remove everything before (and including) the first
line marked with equal signs ("="), and everything after (and including)
the last line marked with equal signs.

2) Add in lines representing any groups you receive in alternate
distributions such as "alt", "bionet", "inet" or "unix-pc". You can
also add in lines for local groups, if you want. Entries should be one
per line with the newsgroup name starting in column 1. The newsgroup
names should be separated from the description (if any) by tabs. The
keyword "Moderated" should appear in any line describing a moderated
group.

3) Edit the "Distribution:" header line to reflect an organizational
distribution, if appropriate. DO NOT remove this line, or change the
distribution to something wider than your organization.

4) "su" to root or your news user, and provide this as input to the
inews program with the -h option; e.g., "/usr/lib/news/inews -h
