A couple of years ago, I wrote a spinning-watch subroutine in MDS assembler.
It used the vertical-retrace manager to ensure that the spin rate was
constant, which actually doesn't help the user the way animating from
SystemTask would.

Actually, the subroutine could animate a watch with one or two moving hands,
or an hourglass with falling sand (remember the Lisa hourglass?).

I have no idea if the routine works with recent ROMs, but the source is
public domain, so I'd be glad to mail it to anyone who's interested.
