In one of the SAS-manuals I read some recommendations about improving
the performance of SAS on a VMS system by changing some SYSGEN and UAF
parameters.

Being not too worried about changing UAF parameters (because it is on
individual basis and it can be restored immediately if wrong), the SYSGEN
stuff is somewhat hazardous:
some of the SYSGEN parameters proposed to increase are the special parameters
CTLPAGES and CTLIMGLIM.
Finding it dangerous to change undocumented parameters without knowing
their impact on the system, I would like to know:

- what do they mean
- is it safe to increase them by a factor 5
