[Hey, someone else uses XDE!]

To use the TCP/IP family of protocols, you need version 5.0 of XDE.  If
possible, you should get hold of the 3 "TCP Update" floppies that came
out with the XDE 5.0 update.

Chapter 33 of the XDE Users Guide (dated December '86) is called
"ARPA Getting Started".  This should contain enough info to get you 
off the ground.

May I suggest that if you are going to use the XDE TCP/IP suite that
you ought to subscribe to the XDETcp.OSBUNorth mailing list.  Have
a word to XDE Support.  [Say Steve sent you :-)]
