Ok, here is what I use to get a new prompt each time I 'cd' (First of all, you MUST log into csh, I know, you want a sh answer) set prompt="`hostname` `tty` `pwd`> " alias cd \ 'cd \!$;set prompt="`hostname` `tty` `pwd`> "' I realize that this doesn't satisfy the desire for a 'trick' in the Bourne shell, but I'm getting dizzy reading all the requests, and nothing shows up.
