Yes, but how can one find out what the status of the GNU project *is*?
I've tried several times to get on the info-gnu mailing list and have
never received a reply.

I'd really like to know how the project is going.  I'd like to know
when it's expected to be released.  I also have specific questions
about how things are being implemented.  Will GNU be POSIX and/or SVID
compatable, for example.  What enhancements are being added?

I believe that the more informed people are about the GNU project, the
more likely they will be to support it.
