Can someone please explain the difference between stepwise refinement and the
topdown approach in programming? Although it is easy to see vaguely what
these notions are (they are explained in many programming texts), I can't
determine what the difference between them is.

Replies to me, please, and I'll summarize or to the bboard, if you think the
topic to be of general interest.
