I have been porting information from an Xt to the St and vice-versa.

You esentially have it correct, but I would only use four connections. Like so

ST Ibm ( whatever )
1) ----------- 1)
2) ----------- 3)
3) ----------- 2)
7) ----------- 7)

In this configuration I have been using the same program as you on the Ibm,
and PC Intercomm on the ST, with both in Kermit and 9600 Bps with no problems.
I even use this configuration to port to and from my trusty ole' 8-bit, with
Chamelion on the 8-bit and still at 9600 Bps.
