I always thought it was from the MARVEL COMICS character called The Human
Torch, who was one of the Fantastic Four. He could ignite himself at will
by yelling FLAME ON!, which he usually did just before trashing the bad
guys. One of his partners was called the Thing, who was about 7 foot tall
and made of stone. Just before venting his wrath on the evildoers he would
holler ITS CLOBBERIN TIME! - (where have all the great comic book writers
gone to?)
