I have seen the same problem with two 500's. One was new, right out
of the box. Would sometimes fail to boot up the Workbench Disk supplied
with the machine, had problems reading diskettes written on other
machines and would bring up the title screen of Silent Service
(notorious for its copy protection scheme) but do nothing else.
My guess is the drive head is out of alignment. I really hope this
isn't a trend. I have been hearing reports about a "bad batch" of
500's that one store had, where 4 out of 20 exibited this problem.
My 2000 is (noisily) clipping right along, however.
