While I appreciate the hard work that goes into some of the messages here, it
should be noted that many of the recipients of the information on
comp.sys.apple receive it via long distance connections and thus minimizing
the lengths of messages cuts the cost of the information. As an example,
while there is little I can do about multiple postings due to network
redundancies, if it is known that it is happening a letter to the Postmaster
at the offending site should rectify the situation. But receiving 2 copies of
the "Great AppleFest Report" because everyone thought that they should relay
their copy via the net is ludicrous. If someone truly missed it, then the
repost should be via email, not through comp.sys.apple, large hoggers like
that should be propagated through the network only once, if you miss it, ask
someone to send to _you_only_!! Also, not many of us need to know all about
the encoding/decoding schemes for Zork, or Wizardry, especially when they get
very large, a message letting people know what publication had it should be
sufficient and where you can be contacted for email transmission should do the
trick. Finally, in no way, shape or form, should any programs ever show up on
comp.sys.apple, List2-L serves that purpose and a new comp.binary.apple should
appear soon to make programs more available. I maintain a large Public Domain
and Shareware library on my BBS, but I would never dream of sending this stuff
on a network, why then should you! If you would like to discuss this further
then send mail to my addresses below or call my ProLine BBS - Pro-Connection
at 717-652-4364 (300/1200/2400 baud) and we can discuss it without further
burdening the network.----Barry Fox (system administrator - Pro-Connection)
