For what it is worth, if I am going to go out with a lady
I am interested in talking with her and finding out about her.
I want to be able to look into her eyes and make conversation
without yelling. I am interested in starting a friendship
if nothing else, and I don't want to intimidate. Therefore,
going to most nightclub-type places is out (too noisy),
movies aren't a great idea (sitting side-by-side in the dark
and not talking for 2 hours), bars (somewhat threatening
to some women), and concerts (either too loud [rock] or
you have to be silent [classical]).

An invitation to lunch is a grand idea, especially if you
know of some place that serves something other than
hamburgers.

Go window shopping at your local mall. It provides lots of
topics of conversation and interesting insights into tastes
and opinions.

When was the last time your were to the zoo or botanical
gardens? In some cases this is a lot of fun (brings out
the kid in some people, or quiets you out a bit if you tend
to be a bit hyper or nervous).

Got an amusement park nearby?

There are lots of other places, but that should give you some ideas.
The most important thing is to find something you'll be comfortable
at and are interested in doing. Being relaxed and natural is
what it's all about. You shouldn't be taking anyone out because
they're a hot prospect for your next romance -- you're going
out to have a good time and get some insight into the way
they view the world. I've got lots of friends that never
were romances and never will be, and that doesn't bother me in the
least. And a few of those friends became romances, and that hasn't
been too bad either.
