The spell shell script that we got with 4.1BSD allows the user
to define a private dictionary file by using the "spellin"
program and setting the appropriate variables in the environment.
The source files also included provisions for including a
system-wide "local" dictionary.  One or both of these is probably
exactly what you want.  If you have any problems setting it up,
drop me a line and I will attempt to explain it further.
