A point somewhat related to the problem of finding a good starting story
for someone unfamiliar with speculative/science fiction:
In a discussion about "The Lathe of Heaven" (Ursula K LeGuin) last week,
one of my friends mentioned that he used that book as a test of a person's
possible acceptance of sf. If they couldn't handle the concept of dreams
actually changing the perceived reality, they would likely find most sf	not
to their tastes.
