Briefly, the problem lies with the close-in miking used by most major record companies. You don't (given a choice) generally like to sit in the first few rows at a concert (classical), do you? The lack of noise on the CD makes the flaws in this miking technique stand out. As HF concludes .. "we'll have to wait until companies like Telarc with their minimal miking techniques start makk making CD's to achieve the full potential of the medium.
