Take a deep breath and hold it. 2. Count 20 seconds. 3. Drink some water, WITHOUT having breathed. This always works for me. My theory is that it works because while you swallow, you physically cannot breathe. Since at this point (after having held your breath) it is dangerous for you not to be able to breathe, your body reacts with a slight panic (which goes away as soon as the swallow is finished).
