Anyone can think and say things that seem to justify their actions, but
thanks to the American way, the few "oddballs" don't control the law
makers.

Out here on the frontier (Portland, Oregon), the traffic reg's
say to drive in a safe and prudent manner, in keeping with the traffic,
weather, and lighting conditions. (We do have some paved roads.)

If it's a sunny afternoon, and everyone but 'slower than most'
is going 65mph, HE/SHE IS BREAKING THE LAW.

Out here in the wilds, you're only supposed to use the inside
lanes of roads (that have more than one lane per direction of
travel) while passing other vehicles.

If 'slower than most' is tooling along at 56mph, with his rear bumper
two points off Captain Caddie's port bow, HE/SHE IS BREAKING THE LAW.

Considering braking potential, evasive action options, and visibility,
my LandCruiser is far less controllable at 45mph then the BMW at 70mph.
Why am I allowed to drive it to the same limits?

    Try this on for size:

Some make/models with proven superior handling characteristics
are (at the owners application) issued special plates.

    Qualifications might include:
    o car passes a semi-annual inspection.
o driver passes an annual performance-driving test.
(difficult to guarantee he's the one driving tho')
    o higher registration fees.
    o clean driving history.

    Current validation would permit:
o a 70mph speed limit on selected freeways (yes they're free to use
out here), only in the inside lane, during daylight hours.
The selections might include those that were designed for and
        are maintained for 70mph traffic.)

I don't drive radically (often). I do drive briskly.
