  From my experience, I need the tripod just to keep the camera framed
and focused on the right object, and not entirely because I'm worried
about jitter.
  The big bummer with mirror lenses is that you can't usually adjust the
f-stop, though the Nikkors do (or used to) come with neutral density
filters for that purpose.
  Also, I'd check out how they respond to flare, etc.  I'll bet the
patterns are quite different than in conventional lenses.
