As for esthetics, many states have laws prohibiting littering in various
forms. Curiously, though, I don't think I've ever heard of these laws
being applied to smokers who leave trails of ash and butts wherever they
go. Not to mention the fact that just last week a friend received a letter
from the city informing him that he had x number of days to mow his
lawn or the city would do it and bill him. All because some neighbor
didn't like the way his lawn looked. He isn't even allowed to find out
who complained.
And why not ban smokers from eating in good restaurants? After years
of smoking the taste buds go, so heavy smokers can't appreciate the
food anyway. At the least, they shouldn't be allowed to smoke and spoil
the meals of everyone else. The non-smoking patrons are paying for a
good meal. I think they deserve to have one.
