I was going to post something complaining about NBC's naieve "Don't Be A
Dope" commercials (which includes Ricky Schroeder, rich child actor, telling
us how he doesn't want to mess up HIS life with drugs), but there's too much
negativity around anyway, so I just suggest you have a look at "Fraggle Rock",
a marvelous Canadian Broadcasting Corporation/Jim Henson co-production which
has the Muppet inhabitants of Fraggle Rock, an entire world beneath an
inventor's workshop, learning about the world and themselves. I wasn't
enthralled by either the Muppet Show or either of the Muppet Movies, but the
wit and sheer artistry of this new production do captivate me. There are
morals to the stories which are by no means deep, but refreshing to see
communicated in such a clear way. Certainly if you have children (I don't),
sit down with them once and have a look at it. It's on CBC every Sunday and,
I think, on Showtime in the US.
