In response to hound!rwhw about the age of 26.....
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
What kind of garbage is that?
What about the elderly? Now, don't get me wrong, some
of my good friends are over 65....but their reflexes
are just not what they used to be. Many a time have I
had close calls because an elderly person pulled out
in front of me and then proceeded to drive 20 mph in a 35
mph zone.
What about people driving with distractions? Like wild
kids that love to fight on the 5 1/2 hour drive? Or get
figity and have to be constantly told to settle down? Or
block the driver's view from their rear-view mirror? I
have seen this a lot on my trips, and never fail to notice
that the driver has a slight problem staying in his/her
lane.
What about the people driving under the influence of ANYTHING,
not just alcohol? These people are the most dangerous,
because their perception and reflexes are seriously impaired
during this time. I can remember the boasts (and not just
from kids...from businessmen in their 40's to my aunt and
uncle) about "oh, I can drive better when I'm ______!! No
problem." Sure, two hours later I get a call that so-and-so
is in serious condition in the hospital because he/she ran
into a pole/embankment/another car/whatever while under the
influence. And just a bit earlier they were trying to tell
me they drive better under the influence. You'd be surprised
at how many people think that.
What about the young man/woman driving while the occupant is
trying to have some kind of S-E-X with them. I saw a horrible
accident a few years ago which was caused from that (obviously
I won't go into detail). Suffice to say that any distraction
like that is probably going to cause some kind of accident, or
at least a close call.
I take offense at what you proposed. I hope you weren't serious.
I am only 20, and a female to boot. I have friends all over New
England, my family is in Connecticut, friends in Pennsylvania.
I like using my car to get around. I LIKE to drive (most of the
time). I am a very good driver. I have taken performance
driving classes and tests three to four times a year (up until
last year because I couldn't afford it) since I got my license
at the ripe age of 16. I drove a stock Camaro in the drag-races
one summer back home. I consider myself a safe driver. If I
can do it, why take the privilege (yes, I consider driving a
privilege) away from me?
