We are currently investigating DEC's TU78 and System Industries' 9700 high-
density, high-speed tape drives as an addition to our VAX 750 running 4.1bsd.

We would appreciate comments from those of you that have had experience with
these drives (or others of similar capability) in regards to the following
areas:

1. reliability

2. fixability

    - average time to repair

3. compatability

    - with a VAX-11/750

    - does a well debugged, supported driver exist for the common UNIX
      systems (4.1, 4.2, Sys V) on a 750

4. capability

    - average number of Mbytes/min backup speed and Mbytes/2400' tape
      using 4.1 DUMP on a quiescent system.

    - average number of Mbytes/min backup speed and Mbytes/2400' tape
      using an image dump
