    Radar detectors are illegal in many states, and the proper match of
    your detector to the local cops radar system is likely to make a cheap
    one a waste of money.  Destruction of public property (IF the tin foil
    wrecks the cops radar gun) is probably going to get you in trouble. And
    I suspect that with tin foil all over you bumpers, you won't be hard to
    spot after the radar goes phssts in the cop car.

    My best guess for how it would REALLY affect the radar would be that the
    tin foil would flutter in the turbulence of the car and the doppler off
    the very radar visible foil would give highly inaccurate speed readings on
    the radar gun.  Like the old story about the tree doing 80 mph in a breeze.

    BUT, why are we talking about illegalities on the net? And why in
    net.general.  Please lets can this discussion before it starts!
