It proceeded with Kirk, Spock, and Scotty (i.e. the captain, first office, and chief engineer), in that order, being verified by the computer (I think by voice) and then giving a sort of numerical password (orally). Once all three had been confirmed and the codes checked out, a 30 second countdown was started. Kirk said that it could be stopped at any point up to T-5 seconds, after which ''no command in the Universe can stop it.'' It was, of course, halted at T-6 seconds.
