In the recent answers to the soft drink quiz, many people postulated that
WACO was the only or one of the only stations west of the Mississippi with
call letters that started with a W rather than a K. In general this is
true, but another exception I can recall is WFAA radio/tv in Dallas.
I believe that if a station was licensed early enough (like in the 30's),
there weren't enough stations yet that they needed W's and K's , so
call letters with W's were assigned. WFAA has been on the air a very
long time.
I can check the Broadcasting Yearbook for anyone who's really interested
in this bit of trivia.
