Have you tried H. P. Lovecraft?
	Read the Cthlulu Mythos cycle, if you dare.

The Classics:

Saki (H. H. Munroe), E. A. Poe, Ambrose Bierce. Bram Stoker, Mary
Shelley both wrote more than their classic work.

Writers who specialize in horror:

Frank Belknap Long, classic; August Derleth, classic; Brian Lumley; J.
Sheridan LeFanu, classic;

Writers doing fantasy and horror:

Lynn Carter; A. Merritt, classic; Lord Dunsany, classic; Fritz Leiber;
Michael Moorcock (Elric)  {horrific fantasy}

Writers who've had at least one Horror story anthologized:

John Beynon Harris; Algernon Blackwood; Robert Block; Eddie C. Bertin;
Ramsey Campell; Walter DeBill Jr; Steven Grendin; David Linsey; Joeseph
Payne Brennen; Bob VanLaerhoven; Mannly Wade Wellman; James Wade;

None of these are the same as Steven King, but much of Lovecraft is
similar set in the 20's and 30's.
