	I think the best relationships (ie the ones that are the most
satisfying and that last the longest) must involve some kind of commitment.
Being commited doesn't mean being possessive, however. So the opposition
between "openness" and "commitment" doesn't hold. On the contrary, I
think respect for the other's ideas and goals, as well as a continued effort
to let the other free to choose his way are essential for a good relationship.
If the other's way doesn't agree with yours, then you have a problem. But its
solution is not to try to change the other or to sacrifice yourself for the
sake of the relationship. Learning to live with incompatibilities and to
accept the other as he really is can be very enriching for yourself and for
the relationship. That's what commitment is all about.
