I am in the market for a new set of tires for my Rabbit and I
am trying to decide between Michelin XZX and Phoenix 3011 (in
size 175-70/13). Yes I know that in terms of stick to the road
performance the Phoenix is the better tire, is only a little
more expensive, and I am told lasts almost as long* (as I'm not
	a street racer).

What I want to know is how well do Phoenix 3011's do on ice and
snow? What is the trade off between summer and winter performance?
For example, I used to have a set of Simpert M401's which were
fine on dry roads but not so good in rain, snow, or ice. (Well
I'm nice: they were terrible.) I know studded snow tires are much
better than either for that, but I don't want to go that route ($$$!).
In my opinion the my Michelins do as nicely as I could expect on ice.
Does anyone have any opinions (preferrably based on experience)?

	Thanks in advance,

	* Actually, I am told that nothing lasts very long on a Rabbit (tires
that is :-). I got about 26k miles out of my last set of 155/13
	Michelins which is apparently typical.
