WILL OF WILLIAM BROOM

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN

I William Broom of the District of Fairfield in The State of South
Carolina being at this time of an advanced age and in a Delicate and
Declining State of health tho of sound mind and of Disposing memory and
Recollection and Calling to mind the mortallity of my Body and Knowing
that it is appointed for all men Once to Die do make and Ordain this my
Last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say
principally and first of all I Give and Recommend my Soul into the hands
of Almighty God who gave it and my Body I Recommend unto the Earth to be
Buried in Decent Christian form of Burial at the Discretion of my
Executors ---- and as touching such worldly Estate Wherewith it hath
pleased God to Reward my industry through Life I Give Devise and Dispose
of in the following Manner and form ---- Item it is my Will and Desire
that all my Just Debts ---- (if I should be owing any at the time of my
Death) be honestly and punctcally paid ---- Item to my son Charles Broom
I give and Devise my Negro Girl Named Aggy together with her future
Issue and increase (The Girl Named Aggy to Remain in the possession of
my Wife During her Life if she wishes so to Retain her) I also Devise to
my son Charles Broom a Tract of Land Containing two hundred and ten
Acres More or less Which I have caused to be Divided off unto him
adjoining his own Land and the Lands of James Alston and is marked in
the General plat of my Real Estate ---- Estate with the name of Charles
Broom and Numbered in the said plat No. 1 to him and his Heirs forever
--- and to my grandson William Broom (son of Charles) I give and Devise
a Tract of Land of One Hundred and Three Acres More or less which I have
caused to be Divided and laid off for him and is marked in the General
plat of my Estate with the Name of William Broom Son of Charles No. 10
to him and his heirs forever ---- and to my Daughter Elizabeth Long I
give and Devise a Negro woman Named Rachel together with her future
Issue and increase and also a Tract of land containing 123 acres more or
less, marked in the General plat of my Estate with the Name Elizabeth
Long No. 8 and also one other Tract of Land which I have caused to be
divided off unto her containing Eighty Eight acres more or Less marked
in the Said General plat with the name of Elizabeth Long No. 9 to her
and her heirs forever ---- Item to my Daughter Priscilla Stanton I Give
and Devise a Negro Girl Named Jemima together with her future Issue and
increase and also a Tract of Land containing one hundred and Ninety-four
Acres more or Less Marked in the General plat of my Estate with the name
of Priscilla Stanton No. 4 to her the said Priscilla Stanton During her
Natural Life and at her Death it is my Will that it all be Equally
Divided Between her two Children William Stanton and Elizabeth Stanton
if they are both alive at the time of their Mothers Death if not to the
surviving one ---- and to my son John Broom I Bequeath and Devise a
Negro Man Named Bob and also a tract of Land Containing two hundred and
Eleven Acres More or less marked in the General plat of my Estate With
the name of John Broom No. 3 to him & his heirs forever, --- And to my
son Mathew Broom I give and Devise five head of hoggs which I have
pointed out to him and Made known to my Executors hereinafter Named and
also a Negro man named Daniel together with a Tract of Land Containing
One hundred and fifty-four Acres More or less marked in the General plat
of my Estate with the Name of Mathew Broom No. 5 to him and his heirs
forever -- Item to my Daughter Mary Mounce I Bequeath and Devise the
Mare on Which I usually Ride and also a Negro Girl named Mary together
with her future Issue and increase, and Also a tract of Land Containing
three hundred and thirty-one Acres more or Less marked in the General
plat of my Estate with the name of Mary Mounce No. 6 to her and her
Heirs forever --- And to my Granddaughter Jane Mounce I give and
Bequeath a Bay Colt of Past Spring ---------- and to my Granddaughter
Leonary and my Grandson William (Children of my Daughter Rachel Broom
Deceased) I Bequeath and Devise Between them Equally a Negro Girl Named
Susanah together with her future Issue and increase and also three head
of cattle together with a Tract of Land Containing two hundred and two
acres marked in the General plat of my Estate With the Names of William
and Leonary Broon No. 8 to them and their heirs forever and to my
Beloved Wife Amy Broom I will and Bequeath During her Natural Life a
Negro Man named Isaac a negro woman Named Binah and a negro woman named
Hanah and a negro girl named Betsy and one half of all my Live Stock of
Every Kind not above specifically Disposed of (and it is my Will that
her half of the Horned Cattle or Cow kind be by her at her death
Disposed of by her Death/as she thinks meet and propper) and also my
House-Household and Kitchen Furniture During her life and it is my will
that my Wife's Sister Jemima Bell have a Residence in my House as
heretofore since her return from the Western County --- During her Life
And to My Son Luke Broom I Devise and Bequeath the Tract of Land on
Which I now live as I have caused it to be Divided off unto him
Containing four hundred and Eighty-two acres More or Less Marked in the
General plat of my Estate with the Name of Luke Broom No. 7 he
furnishing from the proceeds thereof to his mother a Residence in my
House and a Decent and Comfortable Maintenance and Support in every way
During her Life and also the above specified provision for Mrs. Bell (My
Wife at the same time contributing the labor of her negroes toward her
support and Maintenance) he Conducting the plantation for the Mutual
support of himself and his Mother I also Give and Bequeath to my Said
Son Luke my Horse Named Dick a Black Mare and a Dark Bay Colt of Last
Spring and a Bright Bay Mule - My Blacksmith tools and the crop that may
be growing at the time of my Death My Waggon and Gear plantation tools
and Implements of Husbandry and all my Stock of Hogs Not herein
Specifically Disposed of and one half of my Horned Cattle or Cow Kind --
and after the Death of my Wife the following Negro Slaves Vis. Isaac,
Binah, Hanah, and Betsy to him and His Heirs forever together with all
the Singular and Residue and Remainder of my personal Estate Not Herein
specifically Willed and Disposed of of Every Kind and Discription
Whatsoever and I do Hereby Nominate Constitue and appoint my Son Charles
Broom and my Son Matthew Broom Executors of this My Last will and
testament -- hereby --- Revoking and making void all and Every former
Will or Wills by me Made and Do Declare this to be my Last Will and
testament IN WITNESS whereof I have hereunto Set my Hand and Seal This
Twenty-sixth day of August in the year of Our Lord one thousand Eight
Hundred and twenty-six.

Request and in his presence have Subcribed Our Names as Witnesses
