 Jacob Davis, son of William Davis and Anna Marshill.Born Jan 17, 1784 at Deep Creek Mm, Surry County, North Carolina, died Jul 20, 1872 at Yadkin County, North Carolina, 88 years Note: Jacob Davis was disowned by Deep creek MM on 2-6-1808 for attending a marriage contrary to the discipline; a marriage bond was issued 5-17-1808 to Jacob Davis and Lucy Rose; Jacob remained in Surry Co. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Born in Chatham 'Co., NC, Jacob Davis moved with his parents to Surry Co., NC, when he was aboaut four years old. He married there in 1818. He obtainead a marriage bond on 5-17-1808 with Rizia Rose, Lucy's brother, as bonsman. Jacob was a hatter and a farmer. The couple lived for many years near Yadinville in Yadkin Co., NC. In the 1860 census, Jacob, 66 was lissted with Lucy, 64, Lucinda, 36, Abner, 27, clerk, and Elizabeth, 21. Jacob could not be found in the 1860 census, but in 1870, Jacob, 86, lived with Abner, 46 , Luceinda, 44 and a Lucretia Stone, 18 and James Stone, 12. The son Ruel married a third cousin. Married May 18, 1808 at Surry County, North Carolina (49 years married) to:  Lucy Rose, daughter of Abner Rose and Sarah (Sally) London.Born Jun 18, 1786, died Aug 12, 1857 at Yadkin Co., Nc, 71 years Children: 4. Ruel Rose DavisBorn Sep 18, 1819 at Yadkin Co. North Carolina, died Mar 9, 1865 at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Cass Co. Nebr, 45 years Ruel Rose Davis was listed a a teacher in the 1850 Surry Co., NC. census. Moved to Cass County, Nebraska in 1856 and acquired 160 acres of land. He died in 1864. His widow lived on for 44 years at Weeping Water, Cass Co., NE. ---------------------------------------- Platte Valley(Nebraska) Herald, Dec. 21, 1861. -- "A new post office called "Union," has been established in the county on the road from Plattsmouth to Nebraska City, and John E. Beaty appointed postmaster. It will be opened for business next week." "We have heretofore neglected to state that the "Three Groves" post office has been removed from John F. Buck's to W. W. Wiley's." The Beaty log house was located 80 rods west of East Union Cemetery in Liberty precinct, which cemetery is located at the northeast corner of the eighty acres once owned by John E. Beaty. Three Groves Post office was established at the home of John F. Buck near the east line of the southwest quarter of section three in Liberty precinct and named from the three groves of natural timber located at Buck's, Bird's and Ruel Davis's. ------------------------------------------------ “The first school near Cassvllle was in the home of Ruel R. Davis, a trained school teacher. He and his family with an ox team and covered wagon started from Yadkin, county, N. C., in April, 1856, and arrived at the Milt Case log cabin near Cassville in August. Lucinda DavisBorn Aug 11, 1814 at Surry County, North Carolina, died Oct 22, 1906, 92 years 6. Abner Rose DavisBorn Mar 17, 1822 at Surry County, North Carolina, died Nov 9, 1890, 68 years 7. William Rose DavisBorn Nov 26, 1824 at Surry County, North Carolina In 1852, they moved by oxteam from North Carlona to Iowa. In 1857 they settled in Cass County, NE. He represented Cass County in the legtislature as a member of the House in the 5th, 6th, 7th territorial assemblies. He was appointed assistant assesor of Internal Revenue in the summer of 1862. He enlisted in Company C Batallion of Nebraska Volunteer Calvary of the Civil War in 1864. His wife died Dec 10, 1864 while he was in the army. He was discharged, by his own request, April 17, 1865. In 1868 he engaged in general merchandise business with his son-in-law J.N. Beatty. This partnership continued until 1878. The younger sons later becoming associatead with him at Seward. NE | |||
