William Rose Davis, son of Jacob Davis and Lucy Rose. Born Nov 26, 1824 at Surry County, North Carolina In 1852, they moved by oxteam from North Carlona to Iowa. In 1857 they settled in Cass County, NE. He represented Cass County in the legtislature as a member of the House in the 5th, 6th, 7th territorial assemblies. He was appointed assistant assesor of Internal Revenue in the summer of 1862. He enlisted in Company C Batallion of Nebraska Volunteer Calvary of the Civil War in 1864. His wife died Dec 10, 1864 while he was in the army. He was discharged, by his own request, April 17, 1865. In 1868 he engaged in general merchandise business with his son-in-law J.N. Beatty. This partnership continued until 1878. The younger sons later becoming associatead with him at Seward.
