Darby O' Swillivan Born ± 1650 at Dublin County, Ireland, died ± 1699 at Westmoreland Co., VA, approximately 49 years [coosa1.ged] 1699: Darby Done Good Darby Sullivan, born in Dublin County, Ireland, stowed away on an English ship to America to avoid arrest for stealing two loaves of bread from a window sill. He married Elizabeth Snowdall, resided in Westmoreland Co., VA. and died in 1699. My roots have been traced by my father, J.P. Sullivan. So, in his honor, here's our fraternal line: Darby Sullivan ( -1699) Westmoreland Co., VA Darby Owen Sullivan ( -1729) King George Co., VA Darby Sullivan (1722-1799)King George Co., VA Daniel Sullivan ( - ) King George Co., VA Thomas Sullivan (1786 - 1845) Stafford Co., VA Jonas Sullivan (1821 - 1896) Stafford Co., VA Lorenzo Sullivan (1847 - 1929)Stafford Co., VA Lorenzo Sullivan, Jr. (1887-1982) Stafford Co., VA Julian Sullivan, (1929 - ), Stafford Co. VA Jay Sullivan, (1956 - ) Stafford Co., VA It has been told that the Sullivan line were definitely O'Sullilvan's and after they migrated from Ireland, they dropped the "O". Exactally where in Ireland is still a mystery. It is believed they migrated to Virginia (Westmoreland County) approximately 1655 or 1665. Sometime during 1720, they moved inland to King George County, VA., which later became Stafford County, VA. around 1777. Darby "Owen" II SullivanBorn ± 1690 at Westmoreland Co., VA, died ± 1729 at Brunswick Parish, King George Co., VA, approximately 39 years [coosa1.ged] INFO: According to an article in the Magazine of Virginia Genealogy, Volume 28, 1990, an examination of the early records of King George County, reveals no other Sullivan in Brunswick Parish besides Darby Sullivan (d. 1729) and his wife, Elizabeth Snowdall. This supports the belief that this Darby Sullivan was the father of Darby Sullivan of Stafford County, VA. who was born in the early 1720's. The area in which these Sullivans lived was in Brushwick Parish, King George County, until a boundary change in 1777 placed the land in Stafford Co. It may be important to note that in King George County the name of Darby Sullivan was sometimes interchanged with "Owen Sullivan" as is clearly shown in the King George County Inventory Book 1721-1744, pp. 130-131 and the King George County Order Book 1721-34, p. 37. Darby's name was evidently "Darby Owen Sullivan" or "Owen Darby Sullivan" which may indicate a relationship to his contemporary, Owen Sullivan of Caroline County, VA. The inventory of Darby Sullivan, recorded on 7 August 1729 indicates from the items listed that he was a tailor by trade. |
