S. Army Air Corps prior to declaration of war on 8 Dec 1941. He had been stationed at Eglin Field, FL; Chanute Field, Illinois, Gunter Field and Maxwelll Field, Montgomery, AL. At that time there was critical shortage of trained personnel in the Civil Aeronautics Administration and the Army released Mitchell, an expert radioman, to the Civil Aeronautics Administration to serve as an instructor. He was employed in the Air Traffic Control Division as Chief Airport Traffic Controller in Tallahassee, Fl, but was on temporary duty at Atlanta, GA, instructing an Army School in Civil Air Regulations. In November he was called out with the National Guard for induction into the regular army. Going to Camp Blanding, FL, he was sent from there to Scott Field, Illinois for special training at radio school, and later was assigned to the Communications Division at Jackson, Mississippi. Afterwards he was sent to Washington, D. C. for a brief period and early in August was transferred by plance to Brazil, arriving there 11 Aug 1942. 5. He finished high in Prattville High School as did his brothers, graduating with the Class of 1942. He enlisted 17 August 1942 in the Marines. Sent to Parris Island for preliminary training, at the end of six weeks, he was transferred to New River, NC. He married Madelyn King 3 Aug 1951."
