Of course most of the internet has him born about 1177, with his mother Berengaria born c1198 from a marriage date sourced many times over at 1223. Since John had to leave Acre for Europe to marry Berengaria about 1223, there was no prior daliance as far as I can see. Therefore Alfonso must be born later than 1223. Many people have him father of Guy de Brienne, b. c1202--but the dates don't work. I have found alternative ancestry for Guy. 2.
