man Nathaniel Boyd‏‎, son of Samuel Boyd and Mary Boyd‏.
Born ‎ Sep 15, 1788 at Fermananagh, Ireland, died ‎ 1878 at Gore, Argenteuil, PQ, Canada‎, 89 or 90 years
Nathaniel Boyd was born in 1788 in Fermanaeh, Ireland. He died in 1878 in Gore Township, Argentuil County, Quebec. Notes from the book on the History of Argentuil County.

Nathaniel Boyd came from the north of Ireland, came to this country as a member of the Royal Staff Corp. After the canal was completed (Rideau), he settles in the north part of Gore and died there not many years since, within a few months of 100 years old; Mrs. Boyd died a few years later , at the age of 93. They had six sons and two daughters; three of the former and the two latter are still living. hugh, one of the sons, and his descendants live in Winnipeg; his son Mathaniel is the present M.P. for Marquette.

Sarah Stewart (daughter of James Stewart and Elizabeth Marks) was born in Fermanaeh, Ireland. Nathaniel Boyd and Sarah Stewart had the following children:

+2 i. Stewart Boyd.
+3 ii. Joseph Boyd.
+4 iii. Hugh Boyd.
+5 iv. William Boyd.
+6 v. John W Boyd.
+7 vi. Nathaniel Boyd.
+8 vii. Elizabeth Boyd.
9 viii. Mary Boyd was born in 1836.

This history was compiled by Margaret Saunders, daughter of William John Christie and Sarah Anne Boyd: "Great grandfather Nathaniel Boyd married Sarah Stewart. They had seven sons and two daughters. The daughter's names were Mary and Eliza, or Elizabeth. One married an Evans and the other a Pollock. Of the sons, I remember mother speaking of her uncles: Nathaniel (Ontario); Stewart, Hugh, John and our grandfather Joseph, whose first wife was Jane Hammond. Her father was Matthew Hammond and his wife was Elizabeth Madill. Joseph and Jane had three sons: Joseph, Matthew and Nathaniel, and daughters Eliza (who married first William Arnott, then a Williams), Mary (who married James Lister), Bella (who married John Evans), and Margaret "Maggie" (who married John McFarlane - the author of several poems).

JoAnn Thomas of Ottawa did a lot of work on Nathaniel and Sarah about 20 years ago. Here is an excerpt from one of her notebooks: "After checking all available records, I have concluded that our family is not related to any other Boyds in Argenteuil. It is a fact that the first Nathaniel came to Canada in 1829 as a soldier in the Royal Staff Corps of Engineers who were building the Grenville-Carillon Canal. On his retirement, he was granted land in the north part of Gore, close to the St. Columban line where he remained until his death in 1878. Both he and Sarah, his wife, were born and married in Ireland, possibly in Fermanagh since that is where their fifth child, John, was born."

First Wife: Maria (Boyd) Swail [??? - 1890 in Mille Isles, Quebec]

Second Wife: Isabella Margaret "Maggie" Beattie [24 Dec 1868 in Mille Isles - 23 April 1943 in Winnipeg]. They were married 1 Oct 1891 in Ottawa.

This photo taken in St. Jerome, Que but on the back of it is written:"To Mr. & Mrs. J Boyd from Eb Swail & wife, Napinka, Man."

I'm not sure if Eb's first wife was in fact related to the rest of the Boyds in our familyl. But he was a cousin of Elizabeth Christie who married Joseph Boyd. Hence the inscription to Mr. & Mrs. J. Boyd. The photo bearing this inscription would have been of Eb and his second wife.

man Stewart Boyd‏
Born ‎ 1815, died ‎ 1900‎, 84 or 85 years
Stewart Boyd was born in 1815 in Fermanaeh, Ireland. He died on 6 Mar 1900. These notes from the History of Argentuil County.

Stewart, the eldest son of the pioneer, married Margaret Hammond, aunt of Henry Hammond of Lachute; she died about 1890, at the age of 93. They first settled in Gore, but a few years afterward removed to Chatham, where Mr Boyd had bought 100 acres of wild land. On this land, and at that time, of course, he had all the varied rough experience of pioneer life; he earned many dollars in those days drawing wood to carillon and selling it for 90 cents per cord. But he survived all this hardship, reared his family, cleared two farms, on one of which , known as the Mile End Farm, a fine tract, he lives with his son James. Though 83 years of age, he is still very active and ambitious. So great is his desire for work, that he insists on taking care of the stock, and threshing grain, daily, with a flail for over a dozen head of cattle. he was one of the loyal actors in the Rebellion of 1837; he is Master of the Orange Lodge, a position he has held over fourty years. his children - three sons and two daughters - are all living. James, the eldest son, resides on the homestead. William S the youngest is connected with the Customs Department in Montreal. Mary one of the daughters, is married to John Earl, of Lachute; Sarah; the other daughter , married to T.B. Johnson, resides in Lennoxville.

He was married to Margaret Hammond (daughter of Matthew Hammond and Jane Madill) in 1836 in Argentuil Quebec.

. Margaret Hammond was born in 1798. She died on 19 Dec 1891 in Lachute Argentuil Quebec. Stewart Boyd and Margaret Hammond had the following children:

+11 ii. Sarah Boyd.
