The Bassett is my grandfather. He was a coal miner and died around
1942 and is buried in Pineville, Ky. Around 1910, he moved to
Harlan County, Ky and worked in coal mines between there and Evarts,
Ky. He was attributed with opening several mines in that area. I
don't have any documentation to that fact. Sophia (Wood) is the
daughter of John Wood. I do not know why he was in Indiana for her
to be born there. John Wood is mentioned in the History of Laurel
County and supposedly was a large land owner there. I will send you
what I know about Bassett and his family soon. Hope this helps.

According to Jack Warren, grandson of Bassett, in an email to Rod Warren, 1/19/2001, Bassett was a coal miner in Laurel County, KY., moving to Harlan County, Ky., around 1910. He worked the mines around Ages, KY., and Evarts, KY. He was attributed with opening several mines in that area, but there is no documentation of that.
