Samuel served in the Revolutionary War in 1781-1782 with Capt. Thomas Stockley's Rangers in O ld Yohogania County, Virginia. In 1782 he was a signator, along with othe inhabitants, t o a petition to be laid before the Assembly of that year objecting to Pennsylvania taking con trol of the region from the Mother State. He continued to serve in the Militia of Pennsylvan ia untin 1786 when he moved to Nelson County, Kentucky, living in the Salt River area.
During 1786 and 1787 he fought against the Indians who harrassed the early settlers of Kentuc ky immediately following the Revolution.
The name of his first wife is unknown. Elizabeth Case whom he married in 1796 was his secon d wife.[576008.ftw]
