I can find no source to confirm this, but suppos edly a professional genealogist made this connection. The work was done for my Uncle Seldon M enefee in the late 1940's. I do not have his work. registered in Virginia. He was called Governor, Councilman, and was a
doctor. (His estate was settled 26 March 1654. - p. 195)

Ancestral file says born 12 feb 1610; died 30 Apr 1698. According to
"Log Cabins" p.196 that death refers to James l son of John Immigrant.

"He was well educated an able lawyer, surveyor, vestryman of the church
and a member of the "40's", a group of trustworthy men chosen to defend
the Colony against Indians."
He was a large landowner and at one time had acquired 13,925 acres.
He built a mansion home called "Hare Forest" named for the Earls of
Pennington Castle in England where Taylor ancestors are buried. This
was in Kent Co. Va. later Orange Co. Va. Now is Caroline Co about 8
miles from Bowling Green. His huge property was located on several
county lines.

!NOTE: Richard Taylor was Headright of Edward Walker who claimed 900 acres of land in Northum berland Co.to support himself and 17 others in Oct 1650 - "Log Cabins" p.44
The "Headright" system was set up to encourage colonists to come to Virginia. If richer peop le could sponsor others for 3 years; i.e. ship's fare, provisions, and a piece of land fo r a home in Virginia they were given large tracts of land. Many of the first settlers died b ecause of fever and disease in the swampy lowlands by the coast so Virginia was dubed the "De ath State" and people were afraid to come. Those who moved inland and survived usually becam e wealthy plantation owners.
The Taylors from John's family were among these early settlers who prospered. They also owne d ships and other businesses.

John was often referred to as Merchant John, or John Jr. Supplies that
were carried to England included grain, furs, molasses, wine and tabacco;
tabacco being used as money. It was packed in hogsheads or casque and
rolled along the road to shipping points." - "Log Cabins", p.70.
Like his father John Jr acquired huge land grants in Virginia.
