This is the order of the children's names. William/Willis (Named bot h ways
in the same account) was probably the eldest. I have tried to gues s Arthur's
age based on the fact that he was deeded land in 1778. The grantor w as one
James Jones of Halifax. Witnesses were: Willis Speir and Christophe r Haynes.
In Samuel Spears' pension application, Christopher Haynes said that t hey had
known each other since childhood. Samuel's sister married one Lazaru s Jones
who named his son James. Kindred Speirs (Halifax) was closely associ ated with
James Jones. Obviously, there is a very close relationship. Sinc e a Kindred
Spears pops up in Hawkins Co., Tennessee, the possibility of Kindre d being the
father of these children exists. Kindred (Halifax) was son of Jame s (will
1760) of Halifax.
