At one time Dr. Joel Pearson was Medical Purveyor for the Confederate States Army in Tennessee.
Gen. Braggs Army. He was a scholarly and exceedingly attractive man. This from: A Short Sketch of the Pearson Family by W. W. DIXON (Facts About Fairfield). On file in Winnsboro, S.C. DAR Museum.

The following found in a book (Title not recorded) found in Aliceville, Ala. Public Library (Aug. 2002)
"May 24, 1868, in Sumpter County, Dr. Joel E. Pearson, born in Fairfield District, he was highly educated and came to Pickens County in 1837 where he practiced until............when he joined the Confederate Army as surgeon of a Calvary Regiment, was transferred to Hospital Department in 1863 and remained until November of 1865. Served Pickens County as Senator and in House of Representatives of Alabama Legislature. Moved to Sumpter in 1866.
