He moved to Amelia (now Prince Edward) County and later to Lunenburg (now Charlotte) County. Law suits and debts continually plagued Thomas. When Henrico County taxed him on four levies and 150 acres in 1736, they added fees related to various charges in lawsuits. From 1739 to 1744, plaintiffs sued him twenty-four times, requiring him to make many trips to the Amelia County court house, then on Flat Creek, about ten miles east of Saylers Creek. Among those suing Thomas Osborne were Ed Booker, Hezekiah Ford, Seth Ward [884.1], John Pleasants, and Clement Read. In 1742 Thomas sold his 400-acre home plantation on Saylers Creek to Alexander Spiers, a Henrico County merchant, for £80. On the same day he mortgaged five of his slaves for £60. Five years later, Alexander Spiers sold the Saylers Creek land to William Ligon III [440]. In 1743 Thomas Osborne petitioned the Amelia County court for a tavern license, which they granted. His brother Edward Osborne was his security.
