Nunley is reported to have told the Sheriff that he must have gone to sleep while driving along the highway. His car hit a parked automobile and Anderson's left leg was crushed between the two cars. He was taken to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. Nunley is a GI student in Chattanooga, employed by the O.B.
