John Goode, the Immigrant No. 26 in Virginia Cousins, was born either at
Whitstone or Whitley in the North of Cornwall, England the son of Richard
Goode No. 21, 1620-30, or the son of Robert Goode and his first wife
according to Sandra Goode Page and others who have researched G. Brown
Goode's correspondence in the Virginia State Archives and found that he
was preparing to correct his mistake in virginia Cousins before he died.
John Goode removed to Barbados, one of the Caribee Islands. 1643-1650,
and to Virginia prior to 1660. He settled on the colonial frontier, four
miles from the present site of Richmond, (Virginia) which he named Whitby
(Whitley) in memory of his English home, and where he died in 1709, the
proprietor of a considerable plantation. He married in Barbados, 1650-60,
a lady named Mackarness, who accompanied him to Virginia, where she soon
died leaving one son, Samuel; subsequently he married Anne Bennet, who
died prior to 1708. He had thirteen children. p. 27, et sequitur Virginia

40 in Virginia Cousins. He was a minor in 1709, and had the same
provisions as his brother, Thomas, in the will of his father, John Goode,
the Immigrant, No. 26 in Virginia Cousins. Mr. Alexander Brown, of
Norwood, informed the author of Virginia Cousins, the Honorable G. Brown
Goode, that Joseph and Thomas Goode are mentioned among the early
settlers of old Albermarle Co., VA about the middle of the last century
(i.e. 1740 to 1760). These were, without much doubt, Joseph Goode, No.
40, and his elder brother. Virginia Cousins, p. 38. The son was No. 64,
John or Daniel Goode.
