Phineas Queen, son of William B. Queen and Katherine Pritchard. Born Dec 17, 1837 at West Virginia, died 1922 at West Virginia, 84 or 85 years REFN: 792i Phineas was a member of Company K., 17th Virginia Calgary, under command of Gen. Jenkins, until the death of the general. He then wastransferr ed to the command of Gen. M. Causland. Phineaswent south on Aug. 14, 1862 a nd took part in the following battles: Martinsburg, Gettysburg,Jones Cross R oads, Frederick City, and Boonsboro. it was his brigade of 6,000 man that hel d the 40,000 union troops at Frederick City for fourhours. his was the last regiment across the Potomac River on the retreat from Gettysburg. he also was at the battles of Sheperdstown, Front Royal,Port Republic, Winchester, and others. his regiment was at Lee's surrenderat Appomatox Court House. He was a shoe and boot maker for over 32years and owned a farm on Duck Creek, Harr ison County. His wife, Margaret Staten, move to Grafton, West Virginia at th e age of 4.
