GIVN Hans (John) Jacob.
SURN Rector. Came to U.S. in 1714Godfather: Hans Jacob ZimmermanSOUR
@S36@.
REFN 304.[1303118.GED]

Came to U.S. in 1714 with 12 other families from Germany to mine iron ore for Lt Governor Spotswood. He help found Germantown in Fauquier Co., and moved there about 1720. His surname, Richter, means "judge" in German and was anglicized to Rector shortly after coming here. The Hans in his name is an abbreviation of "Johannes" and is equivalent to our Jack or John.

Swiss developer Baron Von Graffenreid was engaged by Governor Spotswood to recruit immigrants from the old Principality of Nassau-Siegen area, now a part of Westphalia, Germany to mine and process newly found iron ore, which would be of great value to the developing nation. This area of Germany, about 45 miles east of Bonn, was selected because iron ore had been mined, processed and iron products manufactured there for centuries. Hans' father was the clockmaker of Trupbach and a member of the guild of Steelsmiths and Toolmakers. His grandfather was a member of the Guild of Hammersmiths and Smelters. So Hans would have been well suited for the task of providing badly needed tools, household items and guns for the pioneers.

Godfather: Hans Jacob Zimmerman
He was admitted to the Guild of Steelsmiths and Toolmakers on this date.

After the death of John Fischbach, Elizabeth took her neices, Elizabeth and Anna Catharine to raise. Possibly this had something to do witht he early marriage of Elizabeth to John Peter Kemper, when she was only 15, and also with the marriage of Anna to Elizabeth's son, John Rector.
