John Josiah Rector Will
Polk County, Missouri

I, John J Rector of the County of Polk, State of Missouri being in very infirm state of health and sensible too of my liability to sudden death at the same time being according to my own apprehension of sound mind, and being anxious to make a suitable disposition of my property real and personal do make and ordain this my last will and testament. It is my will that negro girls Juda and Sittang shall belong to my beloved wife during her natural life then to be sold by my Executor at Public Sale the proceeds of which shall divided as follows: Martin Rector my son in law to have five dollars out of proceeds of said negro and my daughter Nancy D Rector bodily heirs by her husband Martin Rector to enherit an equal share of this proceeds of the sale of said Negro girls. To be districuted equally among his said bodily heirs. George W Rector to have five dollars out of the proceeds of sale of said negroes. Frederick J Rector to have five dollars out of the proceeds of sale of said negroes. William M Rector and Powhattan Rector my grandchildren to have fifty dollars each at the settlement of their grandmother my beloved wife. John W Claypool my son in law five dollars Josiah Whitten my son in law to have five dollars. My son William A Rector to have five dollars. Charles Howard my son in law heirs by my daughter Rebeca to have an inherit an equal share with my other heirs to be divided equallys said heirs. My son Jacob H Rector to have an equal share with said Howard heirs and Nancy and Rector heirs. My beloved wife Mary I desire for her to have in her own name and right for her use and benefit one gray filley and one carriage, five head of cattle, and the bed and beding with all household and kitchen furniture for her and during her natural life and at her decease the above named carriage to go to my son Jacob H Rector in his own right. One eighty acre land to belong to my beloved wife Mary which I desire her to locate adjoining my son J H Rector or other place that would suit her interest the above described land warrant when located the same land to be for her use and comfort during her lifetime then to go to son J H Rector the balance of the above described property except the carriage above mentioned to be sold at the decease of my beloved wife and the proceeds divided as set forth in the foregoing distribution of said Estate and appoint my son Jacob H Rector and Henry J Butler to be Executors of this my said will. In writing whereof I hereto set my hand and seal and publish and declare this to be my last will and testament.

Be it remembered that on this 4th day of February A. D. 1856 before the undersigned Clerk of the County Court of said County personally appeared Henry J Butler and Will Wollard the subscribing evidence to the foregoing instrument of writing purpating to be the last will and testament of John J Rector deceased and being by me first duly sworn according to law on their oaths declare that said John J Rector in his lifetime did sign seal and publish in their presence the foregoing as and for his Last Will and Testament and that they each at the request and in the presence of said Testator subscribed their names as witnesses hereto and that at the time of signing and pbulishing the same and said Testator was of sound and disposing midn and memory.
