Thomas Moulton, son of Robert Moulton and Margaret Wattes. Born 1535 at Scratby, Norfolk, England, died Sep 1587 at Hemsby, Norfolk, England, 51 or 52 years, buried Sep 20, 1587 at Hemsby, Norfolk, England Alternate surname: Multon (IGI (International Genealogical Index)) _______________________________________________________________________________ "Thomas Multon, second son of Robert Multon of Ormsby was given 4 marks sterling in his father's will." Jones estimates the birth of this man as ca. 1525, and concludes that the year was too early for him to have been the same Thomas Moultonassigned to the Scratby Line (who was estimated by Mr. Jones to have been born ca. 1535. He did not follow further Thomas Multon of Ormesby. In his will John C. Multon named his brother Thomas "supervisor" to assist the widow, Thomasyne, executor, and to deliver four acres ofland previously sold by the testator to his brother-in-law William Grene when the latter reached 21. This land was described as "part of the lands where my brother now lives in the filde of Ormesby." In a pivotal document establishing Thomas B. of Scratby as son of Robert D.of Ormesby is a deposition made by him at Acle 8 August 1587 (PRO, E134/3/29 and 30 Eliz/Mich 8). In this deposition, Thomas Moulton testified his age was 74, that he was born in Ormesby and had lived there his entire life; thus his birth year was probably 1513/14, making him 21 or 22 when Robert D. Multon of Ormesby died in 1535. WILL: Source 12, p. 248: Dated 10 Sep 1587, named heirs were his wife Joanna, sons Robert and William, not yet 21 years of age. To Robert he left "two mares, one plough 'full' furnished, two pair of ploughtraces, two leather horse collars, a plough line, and two ringed halters." William was to receive 20 pounds when he reached the age of 21 (NNRO, ANW, 1587, Item192). His wife, Joanna, received "all the rest of my goods moveable and unmoveable." The latter could refer to the lease for years or a tenancy at will, but not freehold property. Since Thomas Moulton did not inherit any land from his father, wasdescribed as "living in the filde" of his brother John Multon, and didnot bequeath land to either of his sons, it is concluded that he didnot have any freehold land during his lifetime. The property where Thomas lived had been turned over to William Grene 4 Nov 1574, when Thomas was 61. Thomas probably leased it from Grene.
