ETICHO I, son of LEUDEFREDUS II and ?: [EXCERPTED FROM: G.A. Moriarty's PLANTAGENET ANCESTRY; all material in double- quotes is a direct quote from him.]
"The early history of the House of Eticho is very obscure and in great
confusion. The books give a long pedigree from Eticho I, D. of Alsace, who
lived about 675-700 and married Berswinde, dau of the Merovingian King
Sisiberth (b. 631; d. 656), the son of King Dagobert (d. 639?), but they
offer no valid proof. Count Hugh le Mefiant of Tours (d. 836), the trusted
official of Charlemagne, undoubtedly belonged to this family, and Abbe
Achaume suggests that he may have been a son of a Hugh, who was "princeps" in
Burgundy, and who married Bertha, daughter of a Count Guibert and Ada (VITA
HILTRUDIS), and he may be the Hugh who in 785 made a gift to Fulda for the
soul of his son, Hohiconi [?] (Schannat's "Traditiones Fuldenses," no. 15).
If this is so the elder Hugh _may_ have been a brother of Luitfrid II, C. of
Upper Alsace, who died in 802. (Chaume's ORIGINES, vol. I, p.424)."
