'Tis thirty years since we were wed, And both so young and green; Thirty years of light and shade Since I was sweet sixteen. For thirty years we've traveled on Up the hill of life together; Hand in hand we'll journey on, Though fair or foul the weather. Full thirty years have rolled away With more of cloud than sun: Thirty years of joy and grief Since you were twenty-one. Our cup of joy has oft been full - With grief too oft o'erflowed; But God, whose ways are always right, Still guides us on the road. Now that we have older grown, The star of Hope shines dim; O may we ever look afore, And put our trust in him. S="Genealogy of the Fairbanks Family", Author: Lorenzo S. Hard and harder beat the raindrops, Light and lighter grew the clouds: Till the earth was filled with beauty, Wrapped in its beautiful green shroud. Lo! the western heavens brighten, Clouds adrift do quickly come; And upon us in its beauty, Bursts the full rays of the sun. Beautiful does not express it, How can we make it sublime; Like the bright and coming future - Bursting through the space of time. How the hills and valleys brightened At the ever-welcome rays; How all Nature reflected beauty In her one and many ways. And the raindrops then descending, Looked like drops of precious gold; The rainbow came in quick obedience To repeat God's promise old. |
