"The Search Series", volume 18, pp. 150-152 John Whitcomb of Taunton, Somerset is listed but not his ancestry. Robin Bush has now established his ancestry, origins from manorial records of Taunton Late Priory. This manor covers the area immediately to the north-east of the old borough of Taunton which lay within the the parish of Taunton, St. James at which four of John Whitcombe's children were baptized. This work establishes that John's parents were Thomas Whetcombe and Johanna Pope and John's ancestry can be traced back to the brothers and sisters of his father. Also, John's mother can be traced back to her grandfather, John Pope of Taunton. This is from research published in 1997 [The Mary and John Clearing House, "Search for the Passengers of the Mary and John 1630", volume 26, pp. 61-73 and gives his ancestry as Thomas and Johanna Pope.
