man John III BEEBE‏‎, son of John Jr. BEEBE and Rebecca LADD‏.
Born ‎ Nov 4, 1628 at Broughton, North. Eng, died ‎ Apr 14, 1708 at New London, New London, CT‎, 79 years
Occ: farmer, soldier. He farmed and lived in Broughton, Eng. In 1649 he and his brother Samuel emigrated to the American Colonies, and later that year they were living Gloucester, Essex Co., MA. In late 1650 or early 1651 he moved to New London, New London, CT where he spent the rest of his life.

His name appears frequently in early New London land records where he was granted land; house lots in Poquiogh and Fog Plain in the spring of 1651; one acre 9-4-1651; 5 acres 12-2-1651; 6 acres 3-5-1652; and land situated east of the Mystic River in 1652. In 1651 he was listed as among the grantees and planters of New London, CT.

In the summer of 1676, Ensign John Beebe on New London, with Capt. George Dennison, was with a company which was raised in New London County for the Indian War. There was once a dispute between the New London and Lyme people over the right to mow grass on debatable land, When the Lyme people came with a constable who began to read a warrant for the apprehension for another ensign, Sergeant Beebe interrupted him crying "We care not a straw for for your paper." There was a struggle between the two parties which did not result seriously to either side. In 1671-2, he was brought before the court, with many others in New London, "for the attempt to drive Mr. Mathew Griswald and Lieut. William Waller by violence off their lands, resistance to authority and assault." Very likely he had been for some time on the plantation of New London in the service of John Winthrop, the founder. In 1707, he deeded 31 acres to his son Benjamin. This deed was recorded 28 April 1714 but he was probably dead at that time. He was called a "Leather Dresser" in a deed dated 1660. In 1675, he was appointed Ensign by the general court. During King Phillips War in June 1676, he went on several expeditions against the Indians to Rhode Island, Taunton and beyond Westfield, Ma. on the way to Albany. On one of these expeditions, the company ascended the Connecticut River to Northampton, where they joined Major Talcot with supplies of which the army was in urgent need. In 1690 he was commissioned a lieutenant.

Clarence Beebe in "John Beebe of Broughton", 1921, says his death was "about April 1714." Abigail: Daughter of James and Joanna [____] York Sr. of Stonington, CT. There is some question concerning her birth date since, according to the Hempstead Diary, she was said to be buried & Jan 1720 at age 86-7. Clarence Beebe in his 1921 book shows her death as Mar 1725 but this appears to be the date Samuel Beebe's wife died. Clarence also called her "Old Goodie Beebe" which was really the pet name of Mary [Keeney] Beebe.

Little is known of John. He gave deeds of land in New London in 1687-88-89, the last two being to Richard Shaw, husband of sister Rebecca. These deeds were recorded in June 1696. No further mention of him has been found. It was earlier thought he was the father of Joseph and Mary, but it is more likely they were his brother and sister. It is possible John never married.

7.
man Joseph Sr BEEBE‏
Born ‎± 1681 at New London, New London, CT--see notes, died ‎ Dec 4, 1756 at New London, New London, CT‎, approximately 75 years
He is said to have died about age 70. However, he was probably younger or may have been born earlier than 1681. Clarence Beebe thought he was the son of John [3] but it is now thought he was the son of John [2] and brother of John [3] which appears more likely. A confusion exists as to name of Joseph's first wife. The New London record says that "Joseph Beebe and Elizabeth Graves were married 26 Dec 1706" while the wife's name is given as Mehitable in record of the children's birth and baptisms. However, a history of the Graves Family, in preparation in 1895, confirms Elizabeth's marriage to Joseph. Elizabeth died in April 1730 and he married [2] the widow Elizabeth [Camp] Fargo. All four of his children by Elizabeth Camp were baptized in New London, CT on 26 Oct 1740. Mehitable: It should be noted that Mehitable would have been about age 57 at the time her youngest children were baptized. She was the daughter of Benjamin and Mary [Hoar] Graves. Elizabeth: widow of Moses Fargo and the daughter of William and Abigail [Willoube] Camp. Moses is probably the Moses Fargo that died, according to information in Automated Archives CD 100, about 1726 in New London, CT. His father's name is given as Jason Fargeau.
