man Jacob Partlow‏‎, son of Benjamin PARTLOW and N.N.‏. Adoption parents: Benjamin PARTLOW and Clara BARNES
Born ‎± 1790 at Culpeper Co., VA.---see notes, died ‎ 1868 at Clark Co., IL--two children under Mary‎, approximately 78 years, buried ‎ at [notes conflicting, did he have one wife named Mary & called Polly?
Could his wife have been Mary and called Polly? The following notes are conflicting as to dates; they show him marrying Mary first and then Polly the same year Mary had her 2nd child in 1815 and then have Mary and Jacob going to IN. in 1836. Following are the notes:

Jacob left Virginia with his first wife, Mary and son John H. 1836 and settled in Franklin CO., IN near Laurel. Deed records of Franklin Co., Posey Township, show that in 1836, Jacob entered 2 tracts of land in the extreme NW part of Posey.

John H. Partlow, son of Jacob moved to IL in 1839, apparently convinced his father to migrate to this state, as shortly after the 1850 census was taken a recorded deed shows that George Yelk sold land in Johnson Township to Jacob Partlow for $710. The 80 acre purchase is described as the east half of the NW quarter of Section 28, Town 9, Range 14, which is about 1/2 mile west of the Restitution Church and is known as the Lewis Weaver Homestead.

Mrs. Lola Hubbard of 8625 Hubbard Road in Auburn, CA. furnished the following information: "I have found Jacob Partlow in Indiana as early as 1824, a land record in Land Rush County. He is in the Rush Co. Census in 1830 and then in the adjoining Fayette Co., IN., Columbiana TWP. in 1840 and then in the 1850 Census he has moved east to Casey, Clark Co,. IL., where he lived the remainder of his life along with his wife and most of his children were there, too."

The will of Jacob made 9-3-1867, was filed for probate in the Clark Co. Clerk's Office at Marshall, IL., on 5-26-1868. The will was witnessed by Jacob Geffs and Royer S. Davis and the executor was named William W. Willison.

The will of Jacob gives his wife Polly [Mary] [someone else had trouble with the fact she is one and the same person] "all for life" , and recites :I have given all my heirs $40.00 apiece. Now William is to have all personal and real estate, except Polly Ritenhouse is to have a cow and an bed." Jacob Partlow is buried in the Partlow Cemetery, Johnson Township, Clark Co., IL.

The relationship of Polly Ritenhouse to Jacob and his wife is not known. Polly was raised by Jacob and Mary from early childhood. Polly Ritenhouse married Nicolas Gross.

Two children are placed under Mary and the remainder under Polly; however I think he may have been married once since Mary's were often called Polly and the dates don't add up. He had seven children in all.Could his wife have been Mary and called Polly? John H. Partlow was the first of the Partlows to live in IL. John Halleck had the urge to move westward, so around 1839, he started out once more leaving his father in Laurel, IN. While stopping to rest with his party and replenish his larder, south of Casey, he came across a spot while hunting that struck his fancy and decided there was not use going any farther. He selected a site near the north fork of the Embarrass River in what is now known as Hoguetown vicinity. Here he built a powered grist mill and a saw mill making many wood products and later came to be known as a fine chair maker. James Ellenbaugh, a close neighbor, was a partner in the establishment of the saw mill business. The chair making business flourished and Mr. Partlow's chairs were sold over a wide area. A few of his chairs are in existence today and are considered collectibles.

John and Lydia were parents of seventeen children, most of whom were born here in Clark Co., IL, but only seven survived.

John H. was a Minister of the Gospel of the Church of God and introduced this faith to the Casey area holding meetings in different homes and in the log school house near Moriah until a small log church was built by the community of Moriah about two miles NE of the Restitution Church, located about 2 miles SE of Casey.

On October 16, 1869, John H. Partlow gave a note to Helen Hutson for $100.00. The note was signed by John Partlow, Wilson Boles, James Ellenbaugh and David Baughman. This was recorded in David Baughman's Store Book. John was in very poor health at this time and must have used this money to go to Akansas as he died there on January 16, 1870. His death occurred near Fayetteville, AR., and he was buried on Boston Mountain, which is quite a large mountain chain and so the exact place of his burial is not known.
