Ancestor of James Thomas Whisenant:

Worth S. Ray in his 1950 publication "Tennessee Cousins, A History of Tennessee People" elaborated on the Lincoln County and their possible lineage from James Taylor "of Caroline County" as he was known, and who, according to family tradition was twice married, and came to Virginia from Cumberland County, England. This information was again stated in "From Log Cabins to the White House" by Mary Taylor Brewer. This compiler has been unable to prove or disprove the descendancy of Edmund from James of Carlisle.

Speculation exists that Edmund married Sarah Brooking. Another speculation exists is that Edmund married his first cousin, Sarah Gregory, daughter of Burgess Richard Gregory of Essex Co., VA. who was brother to Mary Bishop Gregory Taylor and uncle to Edmund. Richard Gregory left a will in 1701 in Essex Co. that mentions his daughter, Sarah. She inherited land as the will provided "700 acres lying upon the head of Mattaponi adjacent land of Capt. James Taylor". In 1719 Edmund and Sarah Taylor sold to Henry Reeves land called "Gregorie's swamp".

In some genealogical publications, Edmund has been reported as the ancestor of the following Taylor men, but according to their descendants their correct ancestory is listed below:
