He: Eli was the 11th and last child of Nathaniel Whtiney and Mary Child. In the American Revolution he was a member of Captain Baker's Company from Westborough. He was a prominent citizen, was a Jutice of the Peace and held other church and public offices. He had a large and well appointed farm, the finest in Worcester County. He was mechanically inclined and had a shop attached to one of his farm buildings where he made his equipment and developed new machinery for his farm work. It was here his son, Eli, received his first training for his later great achievements in the inventive field.
